Mary Ray Recap

Imagine you have hopped in a time machine and travelled back to 22nd of February 2014, when the club hosted the popular dog trainer Mary Ray for a cabaret evening in West Cumbria…

Mary Ray often competes at at the top levels in Crufts, currently in obedience, and she performs a heelwork to music/freestyle routine before Best in Show which is televised to the huge audience, so I’m sure you’ll know of her. She has been a top level trainer for many years, across many disciplines and is very well respected, so it was a big deal for the club to be able to book her for this event. Thank you Mary for coming!

It was a sell out event and we just about managed to fit everybody into the space available at the venue. Mary showed us some of her methods for getting such brilliant results from her dogs and it was a joy to see what they could do. It shows what a strong and trusting bond can be achieved through training with your dog. We were also lucky enough to get to see Lyric, then a puppy, working on some new things such as retrieve, which was very relevant for us.

And to see a variety of dogs being worked. We have quite a few members with ‘little’ dogs and they can work just as well as the ‘big boys’, if maybe a little more cheekily.

Is it my turn again?

The dogs of course spent some time showing off their skills…

The dogs really seemed to love showing off and everyone agreed it was an amazing night. It finished with Levi and Mary putting on a dance routine for us. Mary stayed to answer some questions, even though they had a long way to travel home, she was as nice with us as she was with her dogs.

Thanks Mary

The event also managed to raise a few hundred pounds for the clubs chosen charities, as profits from the ticket sales went to the charity fund, so all around it was a great success.

I wonder if we can convince anyone else to come visit us in the Western Lake district in future? Suggestions on a postcard please!
