Sue

Sitting outside in the sun with a tankard of Black Sheep, the insects in the bushes (bees I hope) reminded me of a day on the Pennine Way, near Howarth. I had just walked down off the moors, past Top Withins, with Sue. We stopped for a thirst -quenching pot of teas at a farm with a atone-flagged courtyard. The girl, perhaps 16, wearing a long skirt, padded over the cool flagstones in bare feet, while the bees hummed in the bushes.

Oh, just in case I give the wrong impression, Sue, my companion on the Pennine Way, way my dog.
